Lord help you anywhere in the United States trying to get medical healthcare without medical/health insurance – it’s like trying to fetch water into a basket if you ask me. I’ve heard some folks say that is actually possible, though for the life of me I can’t even imagine how that is. For a fact, I know that there are actually people who are living in this country right now without medical insurance, and I can only imagine what they have to deal with because the cost of healthcare in America right now is rather intimidating – and with President Obama’s new reforms, I can only imagine that they would get worse before they get better.
You know what insurance is: call it risk management, if you care. In both law and economics, insurance is primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent loss, defined as “the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for a premium, and can be thought of as a guaranteed and known small loss to prevent a large, possibly devastating loss.” In very simple terms, health insurance is insurance designed to pay the costs associated with health care – no more or less, unless you want to go into the intricacies of it.
Here in Milwaukee, the largest city in Wisconsin, located in the southeastern corner of the state on the shore of Lake Michigan, some of the most reliable and well known health insurance carriers are the Aurora Health Center and the Aurora Medical Group; WPS Health Insurance; Eye Institute; Aurora Medical Group Allergy; and FHK Corp, just to mention a few of them. Milwaukee has long been one of the United States’ leading industrial cities and the commercial hub of the state, and there certainly isn’t a loss for various levels of patients with all kinds of medical problems.
The Aurora Group pretty much has the city locked down, as you can read for yourself, when it comes to the provision of insurance coverage for the health of its citizens, but FHK Corp and WPS Health Insurance aren’t particularly being quiet on that front either. So basically, you can fall either way if you want to, or you can go looking for any of the smaller upstart health insurance carriers in the Greater Milwaukee area.
Back in the day, it was beer made the city famous, and for decades some of the nation’s leading brewers called Milwaukee their home, the smell of brewing beer being a familiar aroma in the city. Today, the tide may just be changing ever so subtly as the health insurance companies gradually grow in number, coverage, and popularity. With the health insurance plans paying the bills from physicians, hospitals, and other providers of medical services; and with more and more citizens learning about and purchasing it, perhaps the nation has a brighter future yet with health insurance – Milwaukee certainly does.
